If country music does one thing, it’s telling a story. January 8th, 2021 Morgan Wallen released Dangerous: The Double Album and helped me find a new appreciation for country music. The 28-year-old Tennessee native showed his smooth but raspy vocals that fit perfectly with the lyrics he sings.
The production on this whole album was done really well. I think there are definitely some songs that have more of a pop-country sound such as, “865” and some that are just straight country such as “Whatcha Think Of Country Now.” The mix of the two sounds blend perfectly together and it is still apparent all the songs fall under the country genre. The lyrics are detailed and interesting to listen to because they really do tell stories which is what I like most about country music.
Some of the stories told in the lyrics include “This Bar” which Wallen describes growing pains, and the eagerness young adults feel to grow up. In “More Than My Hometown” Wallen goes into detail about having to choose between love and moving away from his hometown. He describes loving her more than a lot of things, just not his hometown. “7 Summers” tells another love story. It narrates Wallen reminiscing on a past relationship that was 7 years ago that he still thinks about.
The double album has 30 tracks all together. The album lists 15 tracks and then a space and then 15 more. I think the first 15 are more upbeat and the second 15 tracks have more of a traditional, soul filled country sound.
Overall, this might just be my favorite country album. The variety in sounds that were used, and the production really complimented the vocals and lyrics. I think after giving this album a listen I will have to get some tickets for his show here in Bloomington this June.
