Walker’s career day puts out the Flames

NORMAL, Ill. — A career-high 31 points by Chase Walker led Illinois State men’s basketball 81-79 over the University of Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday night at Credit Union 1 Arena.
Walker played an all-around offensive game, going 10-of-14 from the floor and notching one three-pointer. The sophomore finished one rebound shy of a double-double and knocked down 10 free throws.
Jordan Davis had a season-high 17 points on five-of-eight from beyond the arc. He hit a three with 6:07 in the second half to give the Redbirds a 64-63 lead. The fifth-year senior made his sixth consecutive start after coming off the bench in the first half of the season.
A back-and-forth game told the story with eight ties and 15 lead changes.
The Redbirds finished the contest with a 52% field goal percentage and 48% from three-point range.
Following the victory over the Flames, the Redbirds sit at an overall record of 15-9 which matches the win total of the 2023-24 season. ISU has a record of 7-6 and tied for fifth with UIC in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Redbirds will look to add to their three-game win streak against the University of Northern Iowa on Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
