NORMAL, Ill. – The Town of Normal announced a new Director of Economic Development effective April 15. Nik Duffle was appointed to this new role and he shares how he feels about stepping into it.
“I’m very excited to take on the role of Director of Economic Development for the town of Normal,” said Duffle. “I’ve been very familiar with the area for quite some time, being from central Illinois and spending the last three years here.”
Duffle is no stranger to this community. He has been around and has been able to establish relationships with the community that have allowed him to move up into this director position.
“Having those relationships already established and understanding how the community functions give me a good advantage to continue building that success,” said Duffle. “I think that’s a good example of being able to jump into the community and just already have a feel of what’s happening and what’s taking place.”
Duffle has served as the Vice President of Economic Development for the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Corporation since May 2023. He shares how he plans to use his past experiences in economic development to serve the Town of Normal.
“I’ve spent the last six or seven years in economic development,” said Duffle. “I have a really good understanding of how the government functions and how it helps communities put their best foot forward, bringing in new jobs and increasing their quality of life. So, throughout my experience, I have a pretty great understanding of what businesses need to thrive in communities.”
One of Duffle’s priorities is ensuring that businesses in the Bloomington-Normal community have the support they need to continue growing. He shares how he plans to provide resources for any business owner in the community.
“I think keeping everyone at the table and making sure you’re working with all groups who need to be represented, whether it’s businesses or non-profits who can participate in those conversations,” said Duffle. “So making sure you’re keeping everyone informed and giving them an opportunity to be part of those conversations are very important.”
Although Duffle is from Oklahoma, he is excited to move back to central Illinois and be a part of the Bloomington-Normal community again.
“I’m just excited to give back to the community, start the role and continue to do great things for the Town of Normal,” said Duffle.
