NORMAL, Ill. – This past weekend, Uptown Normal hosted its annual Sweet Corn Circus. The streets were packed for blocks with vendors selling anything from corn, clothing and more.
There were also entertainment options to choose from such as the local Iron Spirit Pro Wrestling and Illinois State University’s very own Gamma Phi Circus.
Members of the Gamma Phi Circus walked the sidewalks and streets of Uptown Normal interacting with festival goers while performing their acts. Performers of the circus ranged from kangaroo stilts to juggling.
Gamma Phi Circus bike flyer Jacob O’Neil talked about how much joy he gets from being at the festival.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” he said. “Getting to see everyone just smiling and having fun. You can’t beat it.”
The main event of the festival, however, was corn. Being sold in many variations, people were able to buy anything from kettle corn by the bag-full to buttered corn.
If you missed out on your share of the crop, the festival is on schedule to return next year, as it is a yearly August weekend tradition in Normal.
