Scout Troop 920 prepares for 56th Annual Pancake Breakfast

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Scout Troop 920 is hosting its 56th annual pancake and sausage breakfast at St. Mary’s School on March 14-15 from 6:30 a.m. to noon both days.

Founded in 1965, the troop has hosted the fundraiser since 1971. It is currently the troop’s only fundraiser.

“Since this is our only fundraiser, we want as much bang for a buck as possible,” said first-year scoutmaster Dave Manjarrez.

Manjarrez was part of Troop 920 for eight years as a child and served as assistant scoutmaster before becoming scoutmaster in January. The new position comes with added responsibilities, especially when organizing the breakfast.

“One of my jobs is to make sure scouts are participating and signed up for shifts, as well as knowing where they are supposed to be and making sure they know how to serve our customers,” Manjarrez said.

Along with the scouts, between 30 and 50 adult volunteers will help run the event.

Manjarrez said all proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward supporting the troop.

“The funds will go to everything from buying fuel so we can attend events to purchasing equipment, maintaining our trailer and less exciting things like insurance,” Manjarrez said. “Basically all things that come along with operating a scout group.”
