Rittenhouse Leads Redbirds to Resounding 45-10 Win in Carbondale

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Football traveled to Carbondale this past Saturday to take on Southern Illinois. The Redbirds were 3-2 coming into this game following a loss to North Dakota State.
ISU would be the first team to score a touchdown this game after a 36-yard rush from quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse. The Salukis would respond in the second quarter with a touchdown of their own to tie the game at 7 a piece.
To close out the first half, the Redbirds scored another touchdown and picked up a field goal. They led 17 to 7 going into halftime. In the third quarter, ISU scored a rushing touchdown, with the Salukis getting a field goal, ending the quarter up 24-10.
ISU would end this game by scoring three more touchdowns and winning this game 45-10.
Tye Niekamp was one of the stars in this game. Niekamp ended up being awarded the MVFC Defensive Player of the Week after his performance with 11 tackles, an interception, and a sack.
Rittenhouse would finish this game with 172 yards through the air and a touchdown. Along with 84 yards on the ground with a touchdown.
The Redbirds move to 4-2 on the season and will play their whiteout game at home next Saturday, October 12th. They will take on the Missouri State Bears.
