Redbirds T&F Dominates Ahead of the MVC Championship

NORMAL, Ill – The Illinois State University track and field team traveled to Eastern Illinois University Friday to compete in their final indoor track and field meet before the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Redbirds put on a show this weekend, earning first place in 10 total events between the men’s and women’s teams.
The event winners from the Redbirds men’s track team included Yusuf Baig, winner of the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:12.71 and Garret Slack, winner of the 400-meter run with a time of 50.63. For the Redbirds men’s field team, Amiri Buchanan hit a personal-best 18.59m shot put this weekend, earning first place in the event. Evan Pickard was the winner of pole vault, with a 4.40m mark.
The Redbirds women’s track team included three runners earning first place. Corrina Courser earned first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.91. Maddi Exline was the winner of the 800-meter run, winning with a time of 2:12.24. Maggie Reed took home first place in the 1 mile run, with a time of 5:07.96. For the women’s field team, Amni Austin earned first place in pole vault, with a mark of 3.80m. Brittney Oakley was the winner of the long jump event, with a mark of 5.53m. The final winner was Batya Butler, earning first place in shot put with a throw of 14.54m.
The Redbird will head to Chicago for the MVC Championship, Feb. 26 and 27 at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center.
