Redbirds Sweep Purple Aces on Day One

NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State volleyball team defeated the Evansville Purple Aces three sets to none Sunday afternoon at Redbird Arena.
The Redbirds had no shortage of help as there were five redbirds with five kills or more on the day. Leading the way was Senior Kaylee Martin as she finished the day with 13 kills. Following Martin was Nicole Lund with 9, Sydney Holt with 8, Sarah Kushner with 6, and Stef Jankiewicz with five kills. For the Purple Aces they were led by Melanie Feliciano who had a match high 16 kills. Alondra Vazquez added 13 kills for Evansville as well.
The Redbirds controlled the match winning 25-15, 25-19, and 25-20. ISU got off to a hot start and did not look back. This is Illinois State’s third win in a row and they move to 10-5 on the year and 8-3 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Redbirds will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they will wrap up the two game series with Evansville. First serve from Redbird Arena will be at 4 p.m. You can listen to the game right here on 103.3 WZND starting at 3:50 p.m.
