NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State University Cross Country teams are getting set to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, November 15th.
The men’s team finished 17th overall in last year’s regional meet. Senior Mathis Chavand, who was named 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Men’s XC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, finished 17th overall in the individual standings.
As the teams prepare to face the best of the Midwest, Assistant Coach Jake Gillum reflected on their performance at the MVC Championships last weekend.
“Everyone competed,” Gillum said. “Even before the gun went off, both teams were dialed in, and it showed in the way they raced.”
The women’s team finished sixth overall at last week’s meet, and the men’s team earned second place.
“Obviously, it’s tough to finish in such a close second on the men’s side,” Gillum said. “However, we absolutely had our best race of the season on both sides. We are proud of our progress this season and hungry for one more chance to show it off at the NCAA regional.”
The regional will be hosted by Bradley University and be held at Newman Golf Course in Peoria. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 am.
