NORMAL – The Illinois State Redbirds are on the road again for a very challenging weekend as they take on a pair of Missouri Valley Conference opponents, the Northern Iowa Panthers and the Drake Bulldogs.
The Panthers come into this weekend with a 7-6 record in conference play, while the Bulldogs have a 10-3 record in conference play. Redbird Senior Lexi Wallen explained how they have been preparing for this weekend’s road trip.
“Definitely an important weekend. We’ve been practicing a lot of defense to sharpen that up,” said Wallen. “It wasn’t our best defensive weekend this past weekend so it’s definitely important that we come ready to go as both UNI and Drake are good offensive teams.”
The Redbirds are going to need a strong performance from Wallen who scored a career high 35 points in the Redbirds double overtime win against Loyola this past weekend. Wallen said she was in the zone.
“I just think that towards the end of the game when we felt that we had a chance to win, I just got super focused and did what I could to help my team get the win.”
They will take on Northern Iowa Thursday night at 6:30 followed by a Saturday afternoon match with Drake at 2:00.
