NORMAL, Ill.Illinois State Redbirds women’s basketball made its first appearance in the WNIT Championship game in program history on Saturday, taking on Marshall Thundering Herd.

It wasn’t the outcome the Redbirds wanted, as they fell 66 to 41.

It was a tough night for Illinois State, struggling offensively while shooting 14-for-48 from the field and just 3-for-17 from three-point range.

The Redbirds had only one player score in double figures, with senior forward Addison Martin leading the way with 11 points.

Leading the way for Marshall was senior guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey, who finished with 27 points, shooting 12-for-17 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

Despite the loss, Illinois State’s run to the championship marks a historic milestone for the program.

The Redbirds finished the season with a 24–14 overall record, putting together a strong year with contributions from both starters and players off the bench.

Leading the way this season was sophomore forward Doneelah Washington, who averaged 16.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Washington earned All-MVC First Team honors, was named to the MVC All-Defensive Team, and was also recognized as the MVC Most Improved Player.

Sophomore guard Trista Fayta also had a strong season, averaging 11.8 points, 4 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game, while setting a single-season program record with over 204 assists.

Senior forward Addison Martin closed out her career averaging 12.5 points and 5 rebounds per game.

Illinois State also saw key contributions from freshmen Jaeden Pratt, Kya Hurt, and Grace Nelson, who all played important roles throughout the season.

The Redbirds now turn their attention to the offseason as they prepare for the 2026–27 season.
