Redbirds Face Marshall in WNIT Championship

NORMAL Ill.– Illinois State women’s basketball is in Huntington, West Virginia today to take on Marshall in the WNIT Championship game.
Illinois State comes into the game with a 24–13 overall record and has been on fire all postseason, picking up wins against UT Rio Grande Valley, Abilene Christian, George Washington, and South Dakota.
The Redbirds have been led by sophomore forward Donnelah Washington, who is averaging 19.5 points per game, 8.3 rebounds, and shooting 43 percent from three. Washington has also recorded double-doubles in each of her last two games.
Illinois State and Marshall will meet for the third time in school history, with the Redbirds winning both previous matchups. Marshall enters with a 27–9 overall record and has had a strong postseason run, with wins against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Youngstown State, Army, and Arkansas State.
Leading the way for the Thundering Herd is senior guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey, who is averaging 23.8 points per game along with four assists, and is coming off a 31-point performance in the Fab Four.
Overall this season, the Redbirds are 6–8 on the road, while Marshall is 15–3 at home. It’s shaping up to be a well-fought game, with both teams looking to win their first-ever WNIT title.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
