NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State will take on a pair of M-V-C foes this weekend as their regular season campaign rolls in.
Tonight ISU faces the Indiana State Sycamores at 5 p.m. followed by the Evansville Purple Aces tomorrow at the same hour. The Redbird split a pair of games last weekend, falling to Missouri State and beating Southern Illinois.
This will be just the 5th and 6th games respectively in-conference for ISU as they navigate the early stages of regular season play.
They currently sit at 2-2 looking to build momentum with their young roster. Indiana State has opened up their season at 1-3 while Evansville has yet to notch a W.
Some key names to look out for this weekend are Tamara Otene and Aliyah Moore. Otene combine for 37 kills last weekend, including a career-best 23 against Missouri State as she continues her breakout year.
Meanwhile, Moore, a freshman, has been a major contributor to the Redbird offense and put up 10 kills in each of the two games last weekend.
Another storyline to look out for as the season progresses is head coach Leah Johnson’s win total. In her 5th season, Johnson has 91 total wins and could reach her 100th in the not-so-distant future. The leader of the Redbird flock has vaulted her squad into the NCAA tournament each of the past three seasons.
