NORMAL Ill.- A 20-year old record comes crashing down at Horton Pool. The record was broken at a recent Illinois State swimming meet against UNI, The event was the 400-yard medley. The 400-yard medley members of the team include Madyson Morse, Cassiday Carey, Lauren Naegar and Emma Feltzer. The official time for the record is now 3:50.91.
Swimmer Madyson Morse, talks about their experience and if they were aware of the record or not.
“Personally I was not. Typically with meets especially at home. Records tend to be harder to break but I really think we were all excited to go against UNI” Said Morse
The COVID-19 pandemic still affects everyone to this day, and it affects sports a lot. Madyson mentions how this current season has been affected by it.
“Once we first came back we had a lot of people like in and out of quarantine just because of people coming from home and visiting friends and stuff like that. There was a lot of kind uncertainty like the first week we kinda came back to campus this semester but now that everyone is back in the pool and that we’re all training together we’re all really excited and the energy is picking up” Said Morse
Morse continued to mention the upcoming conference and how the team is handling it as a whole.
“Especially considering since conference is less than a month away thats super exciting, especially for the underclassmen, especially the freshman, it’ll be there first conference so it’s going to be like a roller coaster emotions and I’m always excited for it” Said Morse
The next swimming and diving meet for Illinois State is January 28th at Indiana State.
