Redbird Soccer Advances to Play Drake in Semi-Finals

NORMAL,Ill. – Illinois State soccer faced off against Southern Illinois Sunday afternoon in the first round of the MVC Soccer playoffs at Adelaide Street Field. The Redbirds came out with the win by a score of 2-1 after two second half goals by Chloe Cline.
Illinois State fell behind in the 35th minute after a defensive miscue, putting the Salukis up 1-0. This would be the score heading into halftime.
The second half is when the Birds really put on the pressure. They finally broke through after junior defender Chloe Cline scored on a rebound to even up the score.
The score remained 1-1 after regulation but Southern Illinois was given a red card giving the Redbirds the advantage the rest of the game. They took advantage of this as Chloe Cline scored her second of the game in the 93rd minute, giving the Redbirds the win and advancing them to the next round.
Madi Valenti made 3 saves in the contest, keeping the Birds in the match.
The Redbirds will be back in action in another win or go home match against Drake on Thursday at 3 pm in Des Moines.
