Redbird Gymnastics Takes Home Second and First Place Team Titles Over Double Meet Weekend

NORMAL, Ill. – Redbird Gymnastics had a busy weekend, as they competed in the Windy City Invite at Navy Pier on Friday night, and then came home and took on Centenary College of Louisiana at Horton Field House on Sunday afternoon.
Illinois State took home second place in the Windy City Invite with a score of 192.300. Southeastern Missouri State University ousted the ‘Birds to take home first place with their score of 193.350. ISU defeated Centenary College of Louisiana in third place with their score of 185.700, Fisk University in fourth place with their score of 183.525, and Wilberforce University in fifth place with their score of 176.875.
ISU followed the Olympic order, starting out on vault scoring a 48.375. Sophomore Sammie Wolff posted the team’s highest vault score, to tie for first on the event with her score of 9.800. This vault followed her 9.825 vault at the Border Battle Quad Meet the week prior that earned her MIC Co-performance of the Week. Junior Madyson Baucom placed third on vault with score of 9.725, while Senior Jaly Jones placed fourth with her score of 9.675. The Redbirds then headed to bars where they scored a 46.835. Junior Jada Beswick took the win on the event with her score of 9.800, while Sophomore Savannah Ray placed in the top five with her score of 9.675. Beam was next up for Illinois State, where the team posted their best event score of the night with their 48.650. Senior Leah Davis placed fourth on the event with her score of 9.800, while Jones and Junior Ally Lau tied for seventh with their scores of 9.750. Floor was the last event of the night for the ‘Birds, where they scored a 48.450. Jones and Sophomore Abbey Harris, who’s first time it was competing in the floor rotation, tied for second with their scores of 9.750.
Following their trip to Chicago, the Redbirds traveled back to Normal where they posted their highest score of the season so far, a 193.700, defeating Centenary College of Louisiana and rounding out their double meet weekend. ISU followed the Olympic order once again, where they posted a 48.450. The rotation was led by Ray’s first place 9.750 vault, followed by Wolff and Davis’ 9.725 scores, tying for second on the event, and capped off with Baucom and Senior Mia Oh’s 9.625 vaults that tied for fourth. Bars was next up for Illinois State, where they posted a 48.075 and took the top five placements on the event. Beswick took first with her score of 9.750, followed by Senior Julia Heiner in second with her score of 9.700, and Ray in third with a 9.600. ISU then headed to beam, where they took the second, third, fourth, and fifth spots after posting a 48.325. Jones took second with her 9.725, Lau in third with her 9.700, Ray in fourth with her 9.675, and Davis in fifth with her 9.650. The ‘Birds rounded out the meet on floor with their highest event score of the meet, a 48.850. The final rotation was highlighted by Davis and Jones’ tie for first with their 9.825, followed by Freshman Mia Leblanc’s third place 9.750 routine, and Harris and Senior Courtney Woods’ fourth place 9.725 routines.
Redbird Gymnastics’ next meet is set for January 24 at 5 p.m. in Central Michigan University’s McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where they will compete against the CMU Gymnastics team.
