Taylor Swift- Life of a Showgirl

Evan Drikakis October 6, 2025

Taylor Swift just released her new studio album “The Life of a Showgirl” on the third of October 2025. This came as a surprise to me since she just recently got proposed to and is probably planning her wedding so hearing that she’s recorded a whole album was a surprise. The album, however, is not Taylor’s best work and feels very rushed whether it be in production of the songs or even the lyrics which are known to have very deep meanings feel shallow and not planned at all. Along with the fact that on the album she was beefing with Charlie XCX, which seemed so random, especially the way that she addressed the confrontation in the lyrics. This Album in all was a disappointment and let’s go into why.

This next part I want to go in depth into some of the songs on the album that I thought were either pretty good or could use some work. My favorite songs on the album were Elizabeth Taylor, Ruin the Friendship and Fate of Ophelia. Out of all the songs on the album I felt as if these were classic Taylor Swift songs that had decent production and lyrics that made sense while also being catchy. However, the best song out of the whole album is Elizabeth Taylor it brings that catchy beat and almost reminds me of blank space but only a little bit. The production on this song is cleaner than all the others along with having lyrics that just sound like a Taylor Swift love song from when I was growing up which is probably why I like this song the most but it does have some issues in the lyrics with some of them just being cringey to hear such as, “Be my NY when Hollywood hates me” but overall it’s a good song. Now just as this album has some highs it one hundred percent has the lows with some songs like Actually Romantic, Eldest Daughter and Wood. The song Actually Romantic is clearly a diss track for Charlie XCX which is so random for Taylor Swift especially the lyrics that she uses sounds so desperate for getting back at Charlie, but it sounds childish overall and does not hit in the way she intended too. Then the song Eldest Daughter has some poor lyrics that ruin the song that many can relate to which is such a shame. This song really could’ve been one of the best songs on the album that relates to her fans, but the first 30 seconds of lyrics are such a shame, “Every joke’s just trolling and memes … but I’m not a bad bitch and this isn’t savage”. These lyrics just rip you out of the song as even if you relate to what she’s saying it feels off.

Overall, this album is one that I’m glad came out however I wish it could’ve been so much better than it ended up being, which makes me so disappointed. I feel like she really let down her fans with this album especially with this album being the first one from her hit album “The Tortured Poets Department” this is a huge letdown. While there are good songs, they fail to live up to the standards that we hold for her music, and the bad songs just drag down the rest of the album. Especially the lyrics which sometimes are unfortunate and make the listener just feel uncomfortable while trying to listen to the album while really pushes away her longtime fans because of it cough cough … Wood. However, I would still recommend anyone to listen to the album if you haven’t, it is an experience that you must go through yourself if you truly want to criticize it at all. In my opinion the Album is a solid 5.5/10 which sorely falls short of her last album which is sorely disappointing, but I can’t wait to see what she has coming up next.
