This is Olivia Rodrigo’s first studio album. It consists of 11 songs and the total length of the album is 34 min. and 46 sec. She teased her new album with the release of “drivers license”, and it broke the record for most streams in a week worldwide on Spotify. The whole album came out May 24, 2021, and her songs “drivers license” and “good 4 u” each already have over a billion streams.
You may have also heard her songs on TikTok where it became a song for multiple trends. One including texting your boyfriend to breakup for the length of the album and getting back together after. This is because her album is definitely known as THE breakup album of the year. It has the perfect mix of sad songs and angry songs.
I really enjoyed her writing style. I know she writes all of her own songs, and she takes her lyrics from personal experiences she has had. Not all of her songs are about heartbreak and breakups. She has the songs “brutal” which is kind of like a coming-of-age song. Then, you have “jealousy, jealousy” which is a song that kind of showcases insecurities of people, and especially what they see online.
These are the songs I would recommend listening to in certain moods:
Sad:
“drivers license”, “happier”, “1 step forward, 3 steps back”
Sad/Angry:
“traitor”, “deja vu”, “favorite crime”
Angry:
“good 4 u”, “jealousy, jealousy”, “brutal”
This album was extremely good, and I don’t think it is overhyped at all. I would highly recommend if you for some reason haven’t listened to her full album you should. I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!
Album Rating: 9/10
My Favorites: “jealousy, jealousy” and “favorite crime”
Honorable Mentions: “drivers license” and “traitor
