Shrek Rave- The Castle Theater

Sarah Mehret September 9, 2024

By: Sarah Mehret

On Thursday, September 5th, I had the opportunity to attend the Shrek Rave held by The Castle Theatre. Released on April 22nd, 2001, Shrek was a staple of Gen Z’s childhood, and I vividly remember watching the movie several times when I was younger. I absolutely loved the Shrek Rave, as it was a fun way for Shrek fans to come together and celebrate a classic movie together.

I first heard about the concept of a Shrek Rave a few years ago through Tiktok, as videos of people attending were blowing up. Upon finding out that the Castle Theatre was throwing one, I knew I needed to experience it.. Throughout the rave the DJ played songs from the Shrek franchise, as well as some EDM music. The room was very high energy, and the DJ seemed extremely excited to be there.

One of the first things I noticed when I walked into the rave was how enthusiastic all of the attendees were. Despite the concept of the event being a little silly, everyone showed up with a great attitude and it truly made the rave so much fun. Attendees came in their best Shrek themed outfits, and I loved seeing how creative people were with their costumes. Lots of people dressed as Shrek or wore Shrek ears, and many dressed as various other well known characters from the franchise. The rave’s slogan was “it’s dumb just come have fun” and I think it truly embodies the experience.

Prior to this event I had never been to the Castle Theatre before. However, I believe it was a great venue choice. There was lots of standing room and I felt like I had enough room to move around and dance. Ten people were allowed to be on stage, which helped the show be bit more interactive. The venue also had complementary water, which I loved. I would definitely go back there for other shows.

Walking into the Castle Theatre’s Shrek Rave, I truly wasn’t sure what to expect. However, I am truly so glad that I went, because the event was lots of fun and very high energy. One of my favorite moments of the event was when the song “All Star” by Smash Mouth played, because almost everyone was singing along and it was lots of fun. Overall, I would love to attend this event again, because it was such an enjoyable experience.
