Miley Cyrus, a former child star turned powerhouse pop icon, released her newest album on March 10th. This was exciting for me as a 2000s kid who has been following her music career since her debut in Hannah Montana. Cyrus has never been one to put herself in a box with her music, and she has explored different genres including country, rock, pop and funk beats.
This album, Endless Summer Vacation, has a more pop rock feel and is a tribute to her moving on from a recent divorce. The first track, “Flowers,” is all about self-love and empowerment. This song was released as a single and fans went crazy for it. It was at the top of the Billboard Global 200 for seven weeks and is still charting now. This song has a funky island feel and a super catchy upbeat vibe which everyone can rock out to. Although it has been played a lot everywhere, I honestly haven’t gotten tired of it at all. This will definitely be on my summer playlist. As the album progresses, Cyrus has a variety of different feels, with the rock ballad “Jaded,” psychedelic/techno track “handstand,” and slow melodic songs such as “Wonder Woman” and “Flowers (Demo).” Overall, the differences in the tracks on this album really keep the audience guessing and engaged throughout the album. With every new song, I was impressed. The whole album definitely keeps the island summer vibe going, especially with her song, “Island,” which is a beautiful self-reflective melody about growing up, leaving bad situations, and starting a new life.
It’s clear to see that Miley Cyrus is maturing and growing into her sound with every album and I think there is a lot that she will be able to do when she starts working on new projects. It has been really cool to see her switch things up and explore different facets of music. I’m excited to see what she does next!
