Chuck’s Papas- The Castle Theatre

Logan Moeller February 17, 2024

By: Logan Moeller

On Saturday, February 17th, Chuck’s Papas took the stage at the Castle Theatre in Bloomington IL. Chuck’s Papas has been a fan favorite in the local music scene and performs many house shows around the area. Although they have performed at Castle Theatre before, this was the first time I got to see them at a bigger venue and was amazed.

The show kicked off with another local band Loose. When thinking of how to describe the band Loose, the first thing that comes to mind is fun. They all came out in Jester costumes that looked amazing on stage. Their music brought the perfect amount of energy to prepare the crowd for the rest of the night.

The second band to perform was another central Illinois band Marble Teeth. This was my first time seeing Marble Teeth and I was very excited. Marble Teeth’s music was more of a slower folk vibe that was incredibly beautiful. Since this show took place, Marble Teeth’s music has been added to multiple of my playlists.

Chuck’s Papas opened their performance with my favorite song by them Redhead. This was the perfect song to open with because you always see the crowd getting into it and screaming along to the lyrics. Some of my favorite songs throughout the full set were Show Me Your Love, End of the Day, and Daisies. I was also extremely excited to hear their new song Old Van live for the first time. I love watching Chuck’s Papas perform because you can really tell they all are passionate about their music and love playing together. Another highlight of the show was when two of the members showcased their solo projects during the show. Ryan Tuohy performed his song Charlie and Harrison Gordon with I am Happy. Aside from being a Chuck’s Papas fan, I have been loving the members’ other projects and I was very excited to see them live. Watching them play at Castle Theatre was amazing and I cannot wait to attend more Chuck’s Papas shows in the future.
