In the April edition of the Bird’s-I-View, hosts Annamarie Schutt, Catrina Petersen, Maritza Navar-Lopez, are joined by special guests Camberyn Kelley and Jack Podlesnick alongside the WZND News Team. The team takes an inside look at the adversity and oppression that the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities endure, especially during the pandemic.  WZND’s Jack Podlesnick begins the show by discussing the increase of hate crimes against the AAPI community with the Normal and Bloomington Police Department (3:15-6:08). Then, Annamarie Schutt looked at the university and government response to Anti-Asian hate, (8:32-11:02). Catrina Petersen spoke to several Asian American women about hypersexualization and their experiences, (13:21-16:28).

Next, Camberyn Kelley focused on Asian and Pacific Islander heritage and how stereotypes are formed without proper education (18:11-20:36). Maritza Navar-Lopez had an opportunity to talk to AsiaConnect, the South Asian Student Alliance, and the Multicultural Center (23:24-26:40). Finally, Mikey Fornelli spoke with politicians about how the AAPI community has been treated during the pandemic. (27:48-30:50).
