Pioneers in Hunt After Day One

NORMAL, Ill.- The University High School boy’s golf team advanced to the second day of the IHSA Class 2A state tournament at Weibring Golf Club in Normal.
The Pioneers advanced to the final day of the state tournament shooting a 305 as a team on Friday. They were led by Nick Manning who shot a three-over-par 74. Michael Cavanaugh and Parker Newton were right behind Manning shooting 75 and 76 on the day. Parker Newton rounded out the top four scores for the Pioneers with an 80.
Individually, the Pioneers have three players in the top 40 out of 112 golfers at the state tournament. Nick Manning currently sits in a tie for 17th place, Michael Cavanaugh is tied for 31st, and Parker Newton is tied for 36th place.
U-High finishes the day tied for sixth as a team out of 12 teams at the state tournament. They sit 14 strokes out of the lead with one day remaining. The Pioneers will tee off tomorrow morning in the finale of the state tournament at Weibring Golf Club.
