NORMAL, Ill. – The Normal Town Council has its sights set on several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the town’s infrastructure, economy, housing and quality of life for 2025. Assistant City Manager Brian Day shared how they plan to make these changes.
“We’re putting a significant amount into street resurfacing, [and] pothole repairs,” Day said. “We are also continuing to do a lot of maintenance in our water and sewer departments with additional lines.”
Day noted that the Town of Normal is currently working on the West College Avenue construction.
Another key subject for the council is economic development. The council is working to maintain the town’s current progress and retain new businesses and opportunities.
According to Day, the housing shortage Normal is currently facing continues to be a pressing need in the community and a top priority of the council.
“They’ve approved a number of developments already. Those haven’t gotten off the ground for a number of reasons… mostly due to the national economy,” Day said. “Interest rates are really high right now which makes it’s hard for them to borrow for their construction loans and cost of materials is high right now, so a lot of the housing projects that we started are approved for future use but haven’t been completed yet or many of them haven’t been started yet, so we’re looking at ways that the town can work with the developers to make those projects more feasible.”
The Normal Town Council meets on the fourth floor of City Hall every first and third Monday of each month. The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 3.
