NORMAL, Ill. — Normal Police Officer Brad Park addressed community concerns about noisy vehicles racing around Uptown, which have been disturbing residents.
Police have received numerous complaints about cars revving their engines late into the night. Some students have reported gatherings in the Redbird Spirit Shop parking lot and observed sports cars speeding through local streets.
“People want to enjoy the nice weather, but we will be cracking down on these situations because they pose safety risks and are a nuisance,” Park said.
Safety concerns are heightened as these vehicles race through areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. Students and staff using crosswalks, particularly near the perimeter of the quad, are at risk of being hit.
“We’re proud of Uptown Normal and the town in general. It becomes a problem when people don’t feel safe in their activities. Loud noises disrupt the peace and quiet needed for walking around town,” Park said.
Normal police continue to work toward improving community safety and reducing these incidents in Uptown. Residents are encouraged to report any disturbances to the Normal Police Station.
