NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State University’s Student Government Association met for its third time on Wednesday to discuss new horizons for the future.
The SGA meeting consisted of a new appointment for one of the off-campus senator spots. There are usually bills and resolutions to go over and rarely does the association have any amendments to pass. The most recent amendment passed by the association was for them to be registered in Redbird Life.
Chief of Staff MJ James explains how the President, Vice President, and herself have geared toward providing all the colleges on campus with an outlook for future careers.
“Doing career fairs for each of the colleges individually is definitely on our radar to do and get those moving,” James said.
SGA also plans to conduct more voter registration drives to ensure that students on campus take the initiative to vote.
The association is currently acting to get Election Day called off for students because they believe that is an important part of living in a democracy and everyone should be involved in the election process. James further explains that SGA has had a recent disconnect with the students on ISU’s campus.
“I believe it’s extremely important for student government to be involved with the students and have that outreach with them. We’re trying to get that outreach program going,” James said.
According to the SGA constitution, their purpose is to actively represet the needs and intrests of the student body. The constitution can be found on their Official website. Any witnessed discrepancies are eligible to be reported as grievances.
