NORMAL, Ill. – The Center for Civic Engagement at Illinois State University coordinates the Spring Into Service event at the Midwest Food Bank.

The event took place Saturday, March 25. Spring Into Service is a series of planned service projects over the course of three months that provide students the opportunity to get out and give back.  Engaging in these activities benefits both students and the Bloomington-Normal community.  The overall goal of this event is to get students involved and connected with the community.

The hope for students to get a better understanding of social issues and food insecurity. Volunteers at this event spent time packaging, repackaging, sorting and organizing food and donations.

Community Service Coordinator at the Center for Civic Engagement, McKenna Myers, spoke on the inspiration behind volunteer work.

“The students are benefitting from this event because they are receiving the experience of volunteer work from various nonprofits for our community,” said Myers.
