BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A new salon in Bloomington is setting itself apart by combining affordable services with community involvement.
Mane Society opened in April 2025 and was founded by cosmetology student Ashli Whitton, who said the idea came from a need for more accessible salon options in the Bloomington-Normal area.
“Booth rentals and salon suites in town are very expensive,” Whitton said. “It just wasn’t realistic for me or my family. I wanted to create a space that’s financially doable while providing a safe and supportive environment for other stylists.”
The salon offers a range of services including haircuts, spray tans, facials, eyelash and hair extensions and plans to introduce head spa treatments in the coming months. Mane Society serves a variety of clients, from college students to longtime residents.
Each appointment begins with an in-depth consultation so the salon can cater to its customers’ needs.
Beyond beauty services, Whitton said she hopes to give back to the community through volunteer work and charitable drives. The salon recently participated in a back-to-school supply event and plans to host a toy and food drive during the holiday season.
While still new to the industry, Whitton said she is focused on learning and growing alongside the community she serves.
“My biggest goal is to create a welcoming space that supports both stylists and clients,” she said.
Mane Society is the first salon in Bloomington to be certified in applying butterfly weft hair extensions.
