NORMAL, Ill.- A local real estate company tries to navigate the “new normal” and creates solutions for prospective residents seeking housing.

Realtor for The Gerig Team at RE/ MAX Choice Roxanne Hartrich said their leadership team was very proactive and asked us all to work from home only coming to the office if absolutely necessary to finish a transaction.

“They have also instilled health questionnaires and an agent confirmation form to verify they have asked anyone entering our homes the vital questions to keep our homes safe,” said Hartrich. “If anyone is showing symptoms or been around anyone showing symptoms they are told not to enter.”

Gerig Team president Penny Wilson said, “Most agents are working from home and when they are showing a home, they are practicing social distancing and home cleanliness as much as they can. Some will ask prospective buyers to wear gloves, masks and shoe covers and they will ask sellers to turn on all the lights and open all interior doors so visitors don’t have to touch anything.”

Wilson said some title companies are asking realtors to skip the closing and have the buyers and sellers sign documents in separate rooms.

Last week, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed an executive order allowing notarizations used in real estate transactions to be done remotely.

“While the pandemic presents trying and uncertain times for the real estate industry, realtors understand their responsibility to help prevent the Coronavirus’ spread.” said Wilson
