Local Brewery Hosts Market For Humane Society

Written by on October 12, 2022

NORMAL, Ill. – A local brewery is making a difference and supporting local business and the Humane Society of Central Illinois through their Hops and Hounds Makers Market.

Destihl Brewery is hosting a Makers Market with 32 local vendors and adoptable dogs through the Humane Society of Central Illinois. The HSCI will have adoptable dogs at the event, as well as a look-book that features other pets you can adopt at the event. Destihl hosts Hops and Hounds Events every month. Amanda Stephens, an Event Specialist for Destihl, spoke on the history of the market.

“We have been doing markets since 2018, but we were only doing two a year,” said Stephens. “Then COVID hit, and we realized markets were meant to be outside, we kind of ramped up to 5 or 6, and now a total of 11 per year.”

The vendors for the event are all local businesses from around Illinois that come to support the Humane Society.

“All the vendors at the market are in Illinois, and it is all handmade products,” said Stephens. “There will be jewelry, art, woodworking crafts and home goods, candles, and different food and snacks, as well as pet related items.”

Not only does this event promote local business, but it also supports fostering animals through the Humane Society.

“We are partnering with the Humane Society of Central Illinois as we did last year as well,” said Stephens. “The humane society brings out adoptable pets for us, they bring them out to the brewery to gain attention for them, plus if someone wants to adopt them that day they can.”

The event will be on October 16th, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It is free to attend outside of Destihl Brewery, but donations from patrons toward the Humane Society will be accepted.
