ISU set to take on Northern Iowa in Round Two of Arch Madness

Written by on March 6, 2026

NORMAL, Ill.- The three-seeded Illinois State Redbird basketball team is set to take on the six-seeded Northern Iowa Panthers at 8:30 p.m. tonight from the Enterprise Center as part of Arch Madness.

The Redbirds knocked in the three seed when they defeated Belmont last Sunday 81-74. Along with losses from UIC and Murray State the Redbirds were able to do something that many teams can’t say, having Thursday of Arch off.

Both ISU and Northern Iowa were picked as favorites to win the Valley preseason.

ISU swept Northern Iowa in their regular season series. On January 21 the Redbirds won 59-54 at CEFCU, and escaped on the road with a 71-69 win on February 25. Northern Iowa is a defensive heavy team, being named best defense in the Valley.

This is ISU’s best seeding at Arch since the 2017-18 season. Leading the way for the Birds is Chase Walker, averaging 13.5 points per game. On the Panthers side, Trey Campbell leads the team averaging about 13 points per game.

If you are unable to attend tonight’s contest in St. Louis tune into wznd’s coverage of the game where myself, Connor Allyn, and Nathan Cihak will have the call on wznd.com.
