ISU set to host Family Weekend

NORMAL – Illinois State University students will not be the only ones flocking around campus this weekend. The Dean of Students will offer a variety of activities around campus as part of Family Weekend.
Family Weekend is an annual tradition that gives families a chance to experience campus life together.
“The main focus of family weekend is to bring all of our Illinois State University students and their families together with the goal of being able to showcase everything the university has to offer,” said Commencement and Special Events Coordinator Terri Haerr.
Some of the activities include a welcome tent prior to the football game where families can get their picture taken.
There will be two afternoon shows of dueling pianos: Saturday afternoon at 4:30 and Saturday night at 7:30.
In addition, ‘Who’s Live Anyway’ returns to ISU for the second time in three years. It’s a spin-off of the comedic TV series and stars Ryan Stiles.
The most popular event during this weekend is Saturday afternoon’s #6 Redbird Football game against #1 North Dakota State Bison. Haerr said that tailgate passes for the game have sold out a few months prior and Hancock Stadium comes close to its seating capacity.
Regardless of how families spend their weekend, the Dean of Students wants ISU to show their feathers.
“We just hope that we can build that affinity for students and showcase their redbird pride and show their campus environment to their family and friends,” said Haerr.
WZND will have live coverage of Saturday’s ISU vs. NDSU football game beginning at 11:50.
