NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State University Dance Association is set to begin performances for their newest show titled “Dance Inventions” starting Thursday at 7 p.m.

The ISU Dance Association is a registered student organization completely run by students that any student can join. It also has ties to the school of theater and dance that helped bring forward the Dance Association’s current project. ISU juniors President Veronica Camargo and Vice President Clare Bates, both shared insight on the production of the show as well as the importance of the event.

Production for Dance Inventions began in early Fall of 2022. The entire production is student lead, with every position from dancing to lighting filled by a Redbird as well as volunteers.

The show is set to feature 8 pieces, each with different elements of musical theater, styles of dance, and meanings behind them. Multiple students were given the opportunity to choreograph their own piece.

Camargo noted that her piece will act as an homage to her Latina heritage, while Bates will utilize the form of tap dance as a delivery method for her message. No two pieces are identical in this performance. This event is completely free to the public.

All performances will be located in Centennial East room 116, the building’s primary dance studio. The first show will take place on Thursday, February 2, followed by another showing on Friday, February 3, both of which will begin at 7 p.m. If neither of those times work, the final performance will be a matinee on Sunday, February 5, at 2 p.m.
