NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State football is coming off a road victory over Indiana State, increasing its win streak to three games — the second time this season. After a stellar performance in all three phases, the Redbirds will look to extend their streak with a big road test ahead at South Dakota State this weekend.
All three phases were firing on all cylinders for the Redbirds last week in a 52-20 victory over the Sycamores. Senior quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse will look to replicate his standout performance from last week — completing 29 of 34 passes for 314 yards and four touchdowns — and play lights out against a stout Jackrabbit defense.
The Redbird run game was another bright spot, totaling 214 rushing yards. With running back Wenkers Wright out, Victor Dawson carried the workload, rushing 21 times for 116 yards and one touchdown.
Indiana State couldn’t get anything going offensively as the Illinois State defense stepped up big, forcing two turnovers and allowing just 272 total yards. The Redbirds will look to replicate that effort this week against No. 15 South Dakota State.
Illinois State makes the trip to Brookings, South Dakota, for a top-15 matchup with FCS powerhouse South Dakota State. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
