NORMAL, Ill. – After a long winter break, Illinois State Swimming and Diving is ready to dive back into competition. On February 8th, the Redbird diving team will travel to Chicago for a matchup against the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Flames. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. at UIC’s pool, marking the team’s first competition since their winter break.

While Illinois State currently holds a 1-5 record, the Redbirds have seen several standout performances this season, especially in diving. A key highlight has been Eva Reyes, who was named MVC Diver of the Week for the third time this season. Reyes earned the honor after an exceptional performance at the UNI Invitational, where she set a new lifetime best on the 3-meter board with a score of 290.85—securing first place. In addition to this, Reyes broke a pool record with an outstanding score of 301.08, further cementing her reputation as one of the top divers in the conference.

In contrast, UIC has been on a roll after a slow start to the season. After dropping their first two meets, the Flames have rebounded with a five-meet win streak. UIC will first face Missouri State this weekend and then Valparaiso on January 31st before meeting the Redbirds in early February. With momentum on their side, UIC will continue to use their strong form against Illinois State.

The upcoming meet with UIC offers the Redbirds a chance to build on individual successes and improve their team record. With athletes like Reyes continuing to break records, Illinois State will be looking to make a statement as they return to action after the break.

The Illinois State Diving team will compete against UIC on February 8th at 11 am in Chicago. It promises to be an exciting matchup as both teams aim to make their mark in the Missouri Valley Conference.
