Illinois State Men’s Basketball Picks Up First Win of 2025-26 Season

NORMAL, Ill. – A showcase from Ty’Reek Coleman led the Redbirds to victory at CEFCU Arena on Sunday afternoon, 79-65.

The freshman had the game high in points with 24. Coleman checked in off the bench and went on a 7-0 run himself in the first half. Shooting six for eight from the field, and two of those landing from behind the arc.

Three other Redbirds found double figures in scoring. Chase Walker came alive late in the first half after he sat on the bench for most of the half. Walker ended the game with 13 points and four rebounds.

Johnny Kinzinger was all over the floor, putting up 11 points with most of them coming in the second half. The 5-foot-10 guard also came down with seven rebounds.

Boden Skunberg was the final Redbird in double digits, scoring with 10. Skunberg got the scoring started in the game, as he hit an early three-pointer. Skunberg came down with four rebounds as well as dishing out four assists.

Highlighting ISU on the rebounds was Brandon Lieb, who grabbed 10. Lieb also scored a couple of baskets and ended with four points on the night. Landon Wolf grabbed eight as well and added seven points coming off the bench.

Other Redbirds getting on the court were Ty Pence and Jack Daugherty, who got the start. Pence ended with two points and Daugherty with none. Mason Klabo, Landon Moore, and Cameron Barnes recorded minutes for Illinois State off the bench.

Illinois State is back on the road for its next matchup in Los Angeles against the USC Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14.
