NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois Community College Board awarded $9 million to community colleges, organizations to help students.

Illinois Community College Board is granting more than $9 million to community colleges across Illinois among other organizations in an effort to address educational and career equity.

Board Deputy Executive Director Jennifer Foster says that the grants will go towards helping students get a good job once they leave school.

“This may include training, job placement and more,” said Foster. “Some may offer some training opportunities in an area such as manufacturing. Some may do healthcare. There are a lot of job openings right now in the healthcare fields.”

55 organizations and colleges will receive this award. A few of the entities named were Illinois Central College, Heartland Community College, Kishwaukee Community College, Illinois Valley Community College, and the YMCA according to a list released by the ICCB.

“This is so important to us because we want to give back and give the skills that are necessary in order for folks to come and occupy those jobs that are relevant to our economy,” said Foster.
