NORMAL, Ill. — The second round of the IHSA football playoffs will take place this weekend, with three of the five teams in the Bloomington-Normal area in action Saturday.
Normal Community, which finished the regular season undefeated at 9-0, had a first-round bye last weekend. The Ironmen will return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Edwardsville. Normal Community enters the matchup as the favorite against the 5-5 Tigers. Edwardsville advanced to the second round after defeating Lincoln Park 42-0 in the first round. The game will take place at Normal Community High School.
Normal West also received a first-round bye and will take on 6-4 Chatham Glenwood. The matchup sets up an interesting rematch, as the two teams previously met in Week 1, when the Wildcats won 35-26. Glenwood will travel to Normal West, as the Wildcats are the No. 2 seed. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
Bloomington Central Catholic will return to action in the second round against Tolono Unity on Saturday at 1 p.m. The two teams also met in September, when Tolono Unity won 27-19. Both teams finished the regular season with 7-2 records, setting up a closely matched contest.
Bloomington High School’s season came to an end last weekend after a 40-7 loss to Marion. The Purple Raiders finished the year with a 4-6 record and a postseason appearance.
It will be another exciting week of IHSA football, with three games taking place on Halloween afternoon as Bloomington-Normal teams look to keep their seasons alive.
