IHSA Boys and Girls Basketball Recap February 23rd

NORMAL, Ill.-It was an eventful week for the teams here in Bloomington/Normal. Some took their last shots, some are gearing up for the biggest games of the season.

Girls Basketball

Normal Community’s season came to a close this past week. The Iron fell to Moline 59-27 in the IHSA regional. Their final record was 15-17 on the year. Congratulations to the Iron on a great year!

UHigh had two games this week in the IHSA regional, where they went 2-0. The Pioneers defeated El Paso Gridley 61-45 on February 17. Then on February 19 they took down Clinton 59-44. The Pioneers next game is February 24 against the winner of Hamilton and Warsaw.

Central Catholic is out of the dance, after losing in the IHSA regional this week. The Saints lost to Tri Valley 49-45 on February 19. Their final record was 15-13. Congratulations to Central Catholic on a great year!

Bloomington had a great week to prepare them for the IHSA regional, going 2-0. The Purple Raiders defeated Danville 65-44 on February 17. Then on February 19, they beat Normal West 44-39. The Purple Raiders next game is February 24 against Lincoln. They had regular season record of 12-18.

Normal West laced up the shoes for the final time this week. The Wildcats defeated Urbana 54-8 on February 17. Then on February 19 they lost to Bloomington 44-39 to end their season. The Wildcats final record was 23-9. Congratulations to Normal West on a fantastic year!

Boys Basketball

Normal Community is going into the regional on a high note, after winning their only game this week. The Ironmen defeated Normal West 62-49 on February 20. Their regular season record was 24-7. The Ironman’s next game is February 25 against Pekin in the IHSA regional.

UHigh’s long win streak finally came to an end, losing both their games this week. The Pioneers lost to Tolono Unity on February 17 47-46. Then on February 20 they lost to Morton 62-43. Their regular season record was 25-6, an astounding year. The Pioneers next game is February 25 in the IHSA regional and their opponent is the winner of Danville and Rantoul.

Central Catholic went 1-0 this week, improving their overall record to 17-12. The Saints defeated Meridian on February 17 68-52. Their next game is February 25 against Macomb in the IHSA regional.

Bloomington had no games this week. Their regular season record was 10-19. The Purple Raiders next game is February 25 in the IHSA regional against Champaign Central.

Normal West has struggled more than they would have liked this year, with an overall record of 7-21. The Wildcats were defeated by Normal Community 62-49 on February 20. Their next game is on February 25 in the IHSA regional against Centennial.
