NORMAL, Ill. – Former ISU Director of Education in the School of Teaching and Learning Alan Bates was recently indicted on four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. On August 23, police issued 52 year old Bates with an arrest warrant, with a bond set at $1,000,000.
“The College of Education has undertaken plans to provide continuity of leadership within the School of Teaching and Learning and has appointed an interim director,” said Director of Media Relations Eric Jome.
Bates is now listed as a professor on ISU’s College of Education faculty list, with a new faculty member replacing Bates as Interim Director. The university is looking to be of support in any way to the College of Education due to the impacts of this case.
“The well-being of University colleagues and students is always a top priority. College of Education leaders are focused on providing the best possible support to faculty, staff, and students within the College and the School of Teaching and Learning during this time”, said Jome.
Anyone with any information regarding Bates should contact the Bloomington Police Department.
