Dennis Grundler steps up as new Republican Chairman

Written by on January 22, 2023

NORMAL, Ill. – Long time McLean County Republican Chairman Connie Beard announced on Dec. 13 that she would be stepping down from her position, leaving it vacant for a new member of the party to step in.

Stepping up from Vice Chairman, Dennis Grunder will now lead the McLean County Republicans in the Chairman role. Beard and Grundler have both spoken about wanting a smooth transition of power, with Grundler showing much respect for his colleague.

“I’ve only been involved for a year and a half, but I can tell you that Connie Beard wanted to lay the groundwork that accepted everybody,” stated Grundler. “She would give everyone an opportunity to listen and talk.”

Grundler also mentioned hoping to continue to lead his party down an inclusive and diverse path.

“We want to make the tent big,” said Grundler. “I actually have meetings coming up with the NAACP and ISU student republicans.  Additionally, we want to get everybody out to vote.  We don’t want any more low voter turnout, everyone needs to get involved.”

Grundler elaborated on this drive to create inclusivity by emphasizing how his focus will be geared towards ISU students.

“The ISU student Republicans said they feel separate from everybody, and we want to get everyone under the same umbrella,” stated Grundler. “We all need to make plans together and get votes together.”

Soon after starting his new role Grundler will have to work with other county chairpersons to find replacements for State Senator Jason Barickman and State Representative Keith Sommer.
