Corvette Show Comes Home to Bloomington Normal

Written by on August 24, 2021

NORMAL – Illinois State Athletics has partnered with Bloomington Gold Corvettes to bring their 50th-anniversary show back to Bloomington. In a press conference, today held on the east concourse of Hancock Stadium, Bloomington Gold President Guy Larsen made the announcement that the world’s largest corvette show will be returning to its roots. The show will be housed in Redbird Arena and Horton Fieldhouse on June 10th and 11th, 2022.

Illinois State President Terri Goss Kinzy shared personal stories about her connection to Bloomington Gold as well as thanking ISU Athletics as well as both town mayors. The newly minted university president spoke on next summer’s event.

“We are excited to be playing our part in bringing the 50th anniversary of Bloomington Gold back to the Bloomington/Normal area.”

The traveling car show that traces its origins back to Bloomington has been all over the midwest this century, most recently in Indianapolis where the event brought in over 15,000 visitors. It is estimated by the Bloomington-Normal visitors bureau to generate over 1 million dollars in the community.

“Having an event like this that will fill our hotel rooms and bring people into our restaurants is very exciting,” added VisitBN.com President Crystal Howard.

Normal Mayor Chris Koos and Bloomington Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe touched on the importance of this event to the community that has been ravaged by the economic effects of COVID-19 for the past 18 months.

“We try to bring in new events to the community and we are just now starting to get life back in our small businesses,” said Mayor Mboka about the community’s economic rebound.

The event starts June 10, 2022, and schedules and specifics will be released at a later time.
