Illinois State University’s student radio station, WZND, received four national awards and presented one panel at the College Broadcasters Inc. convention this year.
Annamarie Schutt ‘21, Elgin, Catrina Peterson ‘21, Normal, and Maritza Navar-Lopez ‘22, Aurora won first place in the category of Best Audio Documentary for their work in Bird’s-I-View: Anti-Asian Hate. Bird’s-I-View is WZND’s monthly investigative reporting broadcast.
Joseph Dwyer ‘22, Bettendorf, IA, Joseph Kennedy ‘21, Naperville, and Leo Staudacher ‘22, Chicago won second place in the category of Best Audio Sportscast for their work on Redzone: ‘Birds Opt Out.
Maritza Navar-Lopez ‘22, Aurora won third place for her work on Redbird Response in the category of Best Audio Sports Reporting.
Mitchell Gwodz ‘21, Oswego won fourth place in the category of Best Feature News Reporting for E-Sports Recruitment.
Deb Lesser Media Business Director, along with Emma Ortiz ‘22, Chicago, Gabriella Pistrorio ‘22, Roselle, and Abigail Munro ‘21, LaGrange, presented the panel Offering Event Planning Services where they discussed offering event planning services can benefit a college radio station and its clients.
The convention was held virtually October 27th through October 29th.
