Cause of Bloomington House Explosion still under Investigation

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Early Wednesday morning, rescue crews were dispatched to a house fire on the western end of Bloomington.

8 people were taken to the hospital, and several Fire Rescue crews worked through the night to battle an explosion that then caused the fire. Nicor Gas crews shut off gas to the property, but flames were reportedly still seen coming from the rubble of the home.

No information about the condition of the victims or the cause of the explosion and fire is known at this time.

Thursday afternoon, the Danvers Fire Department released a statement related to the house explosion and fire in West Bloomington. 

Crews responded to calls just before midnight on Tuesday. 8 patients were taken to the hospital, with three in critical condition. 

The subsequent fire destroyed the home as well as multiple vehicles on the property. The responding departments worked until 5:30 am to get the fire under control.  

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshall and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
