NORMAL, Ill. – Career Services at Illinois State University has changed its format to provide more opportunities for students to receive professional headshots for their LinkedIn accounts.

The office is offering additional headshot opportunities at events outside of career fairs because of the growing demand from students who previously had limited chances to get professional photos taken.

Rachael Janicki, the office coordinator for employer engagement, said career fairs used to be the only opportunity for students to get headshots, but Career Services is now offering additional events throughout the semester.

“We had headshot photos available at our career fairs and then offered three additional headshot events,” Janicki said.

Career Services wants students to have professional headshots so they can build connections and increase their chances of receiving job opportunities.

Janicki also explained the importance of having a professional headshot.

“I cannot stress enough the importance of networking and making professional connections, and one great way to do that is through LinkedIn,” Janicki said. “It can really help students present a polished, professional profile to employers they connect with there.”

Students can also use their professional headshots on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, but Janicki said they should not include the photo on their resume.

Janicki also explained the new process for students to access their photos.

“It will ask them to enter their email address, and they should receive the photo within a matter of minutes,” Janicki said. “We recommend using their ISU email address instead of a personal email address to make sure it is delivered correctly.”

Career Services will also post the photos on its website at careerservices.illinoisstate.edu so students can access them there as well.
