NORMAL, Ill. – As the team enters the month of April with a limited number of games left, the Bloomington Bison got a commanding home win against the Indy Fuel. Despite taking 14 fewer shots, the Bison remained efficient, as the buzzer sounded with a 4-2 final score.
The Bison got off to a quick start as Riku Ishida scored his tenth goal of the season at just under four minutes in. Ishida would continue his hot start as he scored for a second time just three minutes later, making it his first two-point game since November.
Through the remainder of the first period, the Bison would continue their offensive attack but were unable to score for a third time. The Bison defense was doing their part in holding down the Fuel, only allowing six shots and zero goals.
In the second period, the momentum completely flipped. After the Bison took the first shot, Indy would shoot the next seven shots, and score their first goal at 4:52. The Bison struggled to get going offensively, as they only took four shots in the entire period, but goalie Dryden McKay did his part, helping the team hold on to their lead.
The third period was a back-and-forth battle between both offenses. While the Bison still struggled to keep possession, they made the most of their opportunities. At just under three minutes, Bison forward Chongmin Lee scored his first goal in eight games, to put the team up 3-1.
The Fuel responded quickly, as less than two minutes later they scored themselves, cutting Bloomington’s lead down to just one. After some more shots from Indy, the Bison put the game away at 11:07, scoring for a fourth and final time. Indy tried to respond, but McKay held strong, and the Bison came away with a 4-2 win.
As the ECHL playoffs get closer, the Bison remain fourth in their division, currently seeded in the postseason. Their next game against the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday will be a big one for the Bison, as the Wings are one point behind them in the standings.
