Undefeated Normal Community playoff matchup against Blue Island Eisenhower

Written by on October 29, 2021

NORMAL, Ill. – Playoff football kicks off tonight with the Normal Community Ironmen going up against the Blue Island Eisenhower Cardinals.

Kickoff for this game will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The Ironmen are coming off of an undefeated season and look to bring their momentum into the playoffs.

Head coach Jason Drengwitz describes the emotions the team is feeling heading into the playoffs.

“I think they are really excited, one of the reasons being because we had an outstanding regular season. It’s really a privilege to be able to prepare for playoff football in Illinois,” said Drengwitz.

Normal Community were leaders in their Big Twelve conference following their undefeated season.

Drengwitz says his team has a chip on their shoulders heading into this playoff run but he says they still have something to prove.

“I think we still need to prove something in the State of Illinois as a 7A ranked program. We haven’t made it to the quarter-finals since 2015. I think we need to prove to ourselves that we are an elite team in 7A and prove to other people that the rankings and accolades are deserved.”

The playoffs come with higher stakes and greater rewards. Drengwitz is fully aware of this but says the preparation for this game has not altered compared to the regular season.

“Each week we try and go about our business the same every day. We just try to focus on being the best versions of ourselves at practice, so we’re the most prepared to play at the highest level that we can on Friday. It’s always about 1 and 0, it’s not about what we did in the past.”

Normal Communities playoff push begins tonight as they look to move past the Blue Island Eisenhower Cardinals.
