NORMAL, Ill. – Life is full of a bunch of firsts and Kadi Borries got the opportunity to experience another first during her senior season.

She made her collegiate debut in the pitcher’s circle against the LSU Tigers, despite playing her first three seasons for the Redbirds in the outfield. Although it was the only game Borries played in the 2020 season, she is thankful for the opportunity, as it was a moment she’ll never forget.

“This was so meaningful to me because I wasn’t recruited as a pitcher, but have pitched my whole life,” said Borries. “It was my dream to play and pitch at a D1 level.”

A dream she got to share with her sister Anni when they became the first pair of twins to play for Redbird softball. The Borries twins have always played together and Kadi said it would be weird if they didn’t compete on the same team in college.

They were even on the same team growing up when they practiced with their brother, which Borries credits to where her passion for the game began.

“I started playing softball because my brother, Cole, played baseball and he would practice with me and Anni for hours everyday,” said Borries. “Even though he would make us run for every little mistake when we were like 8 years old, I grew to love the game.”

And her love for the game grew even more at Illinois State In her 4 seasons with the Redbirds offensively, she batted .209 in 55 games played. She recorded 9 hits and 5 runs batted in with 3 home runs. Defensively, Borries posted an .867 fielding percentage with 12 putouts and 1 assist.

Although her senior season came to an abrupt end, Borries knew that the game is about more than just the statistics.

“Remember that softball is a game and never leave anything on the field and just have fun,” said Borries. “Remember to cherish it because it will be gone too soon. Your teammates will be your best friends and family so always be there for each other.”

Just like how her brother taught her so much, Borries aims to use her Elementary Education degree to do the same for her future students and push them to be their best.
