COVID-19 will not stop YWCA from supporting Survivors

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- YWCA McLean County is still recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is recognized yearly during the month of April.

Due to COVID-19 and the Stay-At-Home order and the pandemic, all events are going to be held virtually.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, is going to kick-off Saturday, April 18 on the YWCA Facebook page.

Each participant will walk on their own anytime during the month of April. Walkers are asked to either take pictures or a video recording and tag YWCA McLean County on social media to show their support for victims.

“The circumstances surrounding COVID-19 are out of our control but we are not letting that stop YWCA from honoring and supporting survivors of sexual assault,” said Director of Stepping Stones Kelsie Langheim-Froom.

Other events such as Clothesline Project and Take Back the Night will also be modified to take place virtually.

Wear Teal Day will be #TealTuesdays during the month of April.

“This day in age, we are fortunate to be able to have these events virtually and still share support with the help of social media,” said Langheim-Froom.
