NORMAL, Ill. — On Sept. 23, there was a press conference where Congressman Darin LaHood and many local officials gathered to discuss implementing federal disaster relief efforts after severe storm damage affected the Bloomington-Normal and McLean County area back in August.
According to Katherine Murphy, the Communications and External Affairs Manager for Bloomington, the costs to restore Bloomington after the bad storms were very high.
“The storm cleanup costs had reached approximately $1.6 million, with City crews removing 2,373 loads of brush and more than 500 tons of bulk waste,” Murphy states.
Throughout the press conference, Congressman Darin LaHood shared his feelings regarding the effort to get federal assistance.
“Congressman Darin LaHood joined local officials to discuss the federal disaster declaration request and his continued advocacy for its approval,” Murphy continued.
Currently, recovery is ongoing throughout Bloomington as local officials wait on the federal disaster declaration.
